The inclusion of a Canon proprietary fluorite element and 5 UD elements drastically minimizes secondary chromatic aberration commonly found in telephoto zoom lens, both in axial and magnification type chromatic aberration. The new optical system thus realizes ultra-high image quality with high contrast and high resolution. Its minimum focusing distance has been reduced to 1.2m with an improved 0.21x magnification to give extra flexibility. Photographers can now get closer to shoot without the need of swapping lenses.

EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM incorporates the latest Image Stabilizer which compensates for 4-stop shutter speed. In combination with the fast f/2.8 aperture, it is perfect for news assignment or sports photography in dimly-lit environment.

The thickness of protruding exterior parts and switches of the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM has been reduced, guarding against accidental switching. Another noticeable improvement is the widened rubber focusing ring with finely patterned grooves to make manual focus easier.
