The DMC-G5 produces high-quality images with life-like details through excellent resolution, image rendering and colour reproduction technology. In addition to a 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor, we have included original pixel mix technology and a completely redesigned Venus Engine that features exceptionally advanced signal processing capabilities. The result is clear, crisp image rendering of the highest quality in both photo and video recording.

High speed AF response allows you to capture even the most fleeting photo opportunity

The incorporation of a Light Speed AF (auto focus) system allows you to catch fleeting photo opportunities with ease. What’s more, the DMC-G5 also features high speed burst shooting (6 fps in 16.05-megapixel full resolution using a mechanical shutter and maximum 20 fps using an electronic shutter). High speed burst shooting allows several photographs to be captured in quick succession, so that you have the opportunity to choose the best image. This is especially useful when photographing sports events, children, or any other fast-moving activity.

Full-HD progressive video allows easy playback on either your TV or Computer

The DMC-G5 is an advanced photographic tool for recording not only great photos but also beautiful Full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 50p videos in AVCHD Progressive (MPEG-4 / H.264) format with playback that excels in compatibility with AV devices like HDTVs or Blu-ray Disc™ players and recorders. By upgrading the Full-HD recording capability from interlaced to progressive, subjects with fast motion or fine details are reproduced even more clearly. High quality sound can be recorded with Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator and a Wind Cut function blocks out most of the noise from background wind. A special, dedicated button on the top lets you instantly start recording videos while shooting photos without having to make any extra settings and the DMC-G5 can even take a photo while recording video by just pressing the shutter button.

Operation is easy and intuitive with a 920K free angle, 3” touch-screen

The large, 920,000-dot high resolution LCD with wide-viewing angle rotates 180° to the side and tilts 270° up and down and offers approximately 100% of field of view. This free-angle LCD with touch-screen operation gives you great freedom with your shooting position and makes it easy to playback images. The new Touch Pad function enables the LVF and LCD to work simultaneously which allows for more intuitive shooting.

Switch between the LCD and viewfinder without having to press buttons

The large, bright 1,440,000-dot equivalent LVF (Live View Finder) has been newly designed to integrate eye sensor technology. The image output between the LVF and the LCD switches automatically with the eye sensor on the LVF, and features sensitivity options (high, low and off) to reduce false operation.
