Canon EF 8-15mm f4L Fisheye USM Lenses
Canon EF8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM is a groundbreaking zoom lens that offers an astonishing 180 degree view of the world when used with Canon’s EOS DSLRs. It offers the creative possibilities of shooting circular or full frame fisheye images.
Key features
- L-type zoom lens
- Circular and full-frame fisheye lens in one
- Suitable for use on Full-frame, APS-C and APS-H cameras
- One aspherical and one UD lens element
- SWC lens coating to reduce ghosting and flare
- Fluorine lens coating to repel water, dust and dirt
- Robust build with superb handling
- Close focusing distance of 0.15m
- Ring-type USM for silent, high-speed AF
On a full frame camera, the lens functions as both a circular fisheye, where a circular image is projected back to the sensor, and a full frame fisheye where the scene fills the entire sensor. This provides increased versatility allowing you to choose between a full 180 degree field of view horizontally, vertically and diagonally, or a nearly 180 degree field of view diagonally with a full frame image.
On APS-C sensor cameras the sensor ‘sees’ less of the image circle, so the field of view is narrower. There is a lock for use with APS-C sensor cameras that stops the lens being zoomed out to the full width. The lock stops the lens at a focal length of approximately 10mm. Because of the narrower field of view of the APS-C sensor cameras, the full width of the zoom range would produce an image that was approaching circular but instead appeared as if it was suffering from corner shading. By having the lock in place images can be captured up to the maximum width possible before the edges begin to darken.
The lens barrel markings also show check 'C' and 'H' marks for APS-C and APS-H sensor cameras to show the maximum zoom that can be used to avoid corner shading or vignetting. This allows you to achieve the best results possible with any EOS camera.
Featuring a constant f/4 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range means you can make use of all the available light. This would be especially beneficial when shooting the night sky as there is no real need for a small aperture to provide depth-of-field, but having a wide maximum aperture allows you to gather as much light as possible and keep exposure times shorter than they may otherwise be.
For the times when your subject is moving, the ring-type USM AF motor ensures silent, fast autofocus to track subjects accurately.
Being an L-series lens the EF8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM lens features a robust and durable build quality to ensure that it stands up to the use of professional photographers. Coupled with moisture and dust resistant seals, the lens is ready for a lifetime of service.
A lens hood is provided as part of the lens cap with the EF8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM lens. Because of the extreme angle of view the lens can ‘see’ the lens hood so it should only be used when shooting at the 15mm focal length setting. At wider focal lengths the lens hood is likely to be visible in the image frame.
The 8-15mm fisheye focal length of this zoom lens provides the widest angle of view for capturing truly epic scenes. The sky at night is an ideal candidate where the 180 degree field of view can be used to ensure you get the whole sky in. Detailed specifications of the Canon EF 8-15mm f4L Fisheye USM Lens
